Lex is a mindfulness coach who uses integrated somatic embodiment techniques to facilitate your connection with your soul’s purpose. She combines two decades' experience with meditation and yoga, and teaching and mentoring to empower you to stay aligned with your intentions in order to shift your internal experience toward self-leadership, transforming your relationship to Self and elevating your personal evolution.
She conducts workshops, and individual and teamwork sessions, guided to empower her co-creators with customized journeys to nurture their own inner authority and manifest their intentions. Lex uses a combination of breathwork, meditation, movement, journaling, intention-setting, visualization, and chakra sweeps to center the attention and nourish intuition. She personalizes each experience to the human BEING(s) in front of her so that each strategy is customized for you, your intentions, and your life.
Her expertise includes mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR); trauma-informed leadership; and evidence-based diversity, equity, and inclusion facilitation. In addition to mastery through guided and self-led embodied practices, her training includes retreats at Thanyapura in Phuket, Thailand, formal and informal mentorship, and a decade of professional development as a teacher in the U.S and abroad. A journalist and educator by trade, she's a pioneer in establishing the mindful classroom long before somatic embodiment was en trend. She founded PEARLS (Poise, Elegance, Assertiveness, Respect, Love, and Self) for young women at Hillside High School in Durham, NC in 2005, and conducted Mindfulness: the ISHCMC Experiment at the International School of Ho Chi Minh City in 2012. Doing yoga with her AP Language and Composition classes was met with support, not opposition at the American School of Dubai in 2009. A department head and team lead, colleagues saw a direct connection between students' somatic practices and their preparation for and exceptional achievement on writing assessments. Her first non-news article for MindBodyGreen was 31 Ways To Be Mindful Every Day In March (no longer available).
Anchored in mindful awareness, Lex embraces astrology as a tool—much like meditation and yoga. A synthesizer by nature, her practice has evolved from studying sun signs as a teen, to doing birth charts at the bar in college, to using astrology combined with mindfulness as a way to integrate self as an adult. Her work is influenced by Briar Jacques, Chani Nicholas, Jana Roemer (Attune to the Moon), and Chris Corsini. As opposed to a series of horoscopes that attempt to prescribe one’s day, she uses astrology to plan personal growth and align with the energy of the Universe. Her talent lies in timing intention-setting in a way that catalyzes change and avoids overwhelm.
As an intuitive, Lex has remained connected to the healing arts and mindfulness, regardless of her stage in life. Her twice-daily yoga practice began over 20 years ago along with her mindfulness and meditation journey. A solo parent, she has mastered the art of weaving bits of mindfulness into her day. She’s a journalist, content strategist, and audience engagement editor by day. When she’s not wordsmithing or workshopping, you can find her parenting her kiddo; in a confab; on a yoga mat; in a latin dance class; or in the bike lane. Whatever she’s doing, she’d rather be doing it outside.
Found Astrology at Mr. Rabbit Coffee, Philly
How It Started
I am sitting in a cafe, sharing the goods on the New Moon in Taurus to a new friend standing in front of me. The woman to my left, leans over.
"Excuse me, I don't mean to be rude, but I'd love to hear more about this."
I shift so I can explain to both people. A few minutes later, the person to my right leans over, and apologizes for interrupting.
"I heard you say something about Taurus, do you mind if I listen also?” I continue, addressing all three of them.
"Lex!" my friend Julia and owner of the coffee shop shouts. "A little louder for the people in the back!"
I say I'm sure not everyone wants to hear this. All the customers and baristas turn and nod enthusiastically. Yes, they do.
Fast forward a few months, and on the customer-facing side of the espresso machine, a bucket holds a few colorful scrolls, each with the low-down on a different angle, signature or aspect. These insights give customers something interesting to read while they wait.
The scrolls gifted to the Mr. Rabbit community are represented on the blog. The statement below is printed on each.
